Thursday and a trip,on two buses to Axminster see Suz off for her return to London. We trekked up into the town and has coffee a the River Cottage(of tv fame) cafe. Lovely atmosphere and good range of deli items, plus fresh made bread. We then wandered around the market, noting that some of the stalls had been at the Seaton market previously? A bit of retail therapy before heading to the station and a iconic farewell to Suz's, handkerchieves fluttering in the breeze. We returned to River cottage for lunch but needed to catch the bus back to beer in time, so did not buy anything of import. A different sort of day, with limited walking, but good none the less. Friday. Our last day in Beernanda summer's day at last! Went brown to the beach and awed after a fishing trip and soon we were aboard the Lillie Mae a little Luger, with three other people. It was quite glorious looking back to Beer from the sea and to see the expanse of cliffs, both red and white, that we had walked over. No luck with the hand lines though, we think the fish saw us coming! We fossicked on the rocks and watched the world go by when we got back. Back at the cottage, we packed a picnic and retuned to a seat overlooking the beach and gazed at the scene before us...boats going out, brave simmers in and out of the water us splash, kayaker, walkers passing by, and. Deck chair sitters googling in the unaccustomed sunshine. A peaceful scene. Back for packing and tidying and later out for our last meal at the Anchor. Saturday and out the door by 9.35 for the bus, after a short walk to say our farewells to the sea front. The journey was uneventful. We were thankful for the lifts at Axminster and Clapham Junction which precluded us bouncing our large suitcases down the stairs! A phone call to Sarah alleged her to our arrival at Dorking and she and her mother were there to greet us. Greetings and exchange of news followed and while Sarah returned her mother home we surveyed the garden and admired John's prowess with the lawn mower and then walked down to Betchworth village. Large gracious houses make up the village with views of broad fields. John had endless stories to tell of village life and he kept us entertained as we walked past the houses of friends, the school, the church where has son is to be married later in the month, the barn where the reception is to be held and the village pub but we did not actually walk past that. The return journey was at a quick Pace as Sarah was awaiting our return. Sunday we will resume our walking practice in the Surrey hills.
