Best views over Madrid are to be had from the top floor if el Cortez ingles, the rather expansive department store. On the top floor is the food hall, but probably more up market then most. You can sit overlooking Madrid, then go around the various shops and choose your meal and return to the view. Only nine floors up, so not quite like the sky tower. Coming down from the dizzying heights, we walked to the Chocolateria, where they serve hot chocolate, and when I say not chocolate, it is no powdered variety but real melted chocolate. Traditionally served with churros, a sort of long doughnut but slightly salty, which I suspect is deep fried. You dip the churros into the chocolate. Like a hot mousse I would say. Not something you would have everyday, but a slice of Spanish life to enjoy. Goodbyes to Nickie and packing was our next errand, -and at 5, our van arrived to take us to the airport. What a hassle to check in. Iberian airways were very sticky about baggage weight and poor m had to re pack her things as she was overweight by 2 kilos. Since I was underweight, you think they could have been more flexible, but no. Add to that the usual red light m gets when passing through the X-ray, you can understand the frustration. Flight uneventful. Though no refreshments unless you buy them. Arriving at A coruna was a change as it was an airport about the size of Rotorua. Soon we had packed everything into the rental car, squeezed John into drivers seat And we were on the way! The first roundabout going the 'wrong way' was white knuckle territory! However, the rest of the journey, apart from wrong turns a couple of times was ok, though it was dark and late by the time we arrived in Laxe. We booked into the hotel and at 11 pm were two doors down having dinner! The waiter gave up on us, and got the cook out who spoke English. Gone midnight by the time we got to bed though. We will see what the new day brings.
