Today the weather was not much improved though it was less wet. After. Leisurely breakfast we donned warm clothes and raincoats and armed with out trusty sticks to ward off the lions and tigres and bears, we set forth. Soon we had left the houses and the motor way behind, and as we walked up the Downs (work that one out) the noise receded and the whole of Brighton became spread out. Turned around often as the vista unfolded, but soon we were heads down and hoods up against a bitingly cold wind, and the occasionally onslaught of rain. The sheep and their lambs were even taking cover. We soon turned off the hills and made our way down the hill, past the windmills Jack and Jill and on through the village of Clayton, through to Hassocks. For our backward journey we took the bus, and walked from Patcham, past the bakery.... Well, not actually past because we stopped for some 'treats'! This was a walk we had done often as children. We loved the tunnel at Clayton with its turrets. Spring was definitely springing despite the weather, we found acres of woodland smothered in bluebells, violets, celandines and other woodland flowers, new leaves on trees, and lots of mud after the rain. Later, the aun took over the sky and chased the black clouds away. And so I am sitting blogging with spring sunshine streaming through the window. I think we wore brother John out, he has gone for nap, and Mardi too is nodding off in the chair. It was a great walk, with many childhood memories on the way. Time to look up the names of some of the flowers that we saw and may be a cup of tea........and a lie down
